Women’s Tennis Topped by Cornell on the Road

ITHACA, N.Y. – Rutgers women's tennis fell to Cornell by a score of 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Reis Tennis Center. Despite RU (4-2) collecting the doubles point for an early advantage, Cornell (5-4) made a run in singles play for the victory.
"Today was definitely a tough one. I think we played two really solid teams this weekend, but everyone knows what they have to do to improve and keep building," said senior Chloe Lee. "Overall, the team feels hungry to get out there again and make the adjustments necessary to come out on top next time."
The Scarlet Knights started strong with sophomore Jaci Cochrane and freshman Maya Jacobs opening double action with a 6-3 victory over the Big Red's Madison Stevens and Ananya Dua at the No. 2 spot. Cornells's Michelle Wang and Cheyenne Lilienthal responded with a 7-5 victory over Lee and freshman Isabelle Da Silva at the No. 3 position to even out the battle.
Senior Mingxiu Du and sophomore Kat Muzik would then secure the doubles point for RU with a 7-6 (4) victory over Cornell's Priyanka Shah and Mariko Iinuma at the No. 1 spot, giving the Scarlet Knights a 1-0 lead in the match.
Moving into singles action, Cornell captured five straight singles matchups en route to victory. Lee closed the match with a 3-6, 7-6 (3) victory at the No. 2 spot over Iinuma.
Up next, Rutgers continues a seven-game road swing with a trip to in-state foe Princeton on Wednesday, Feb. 21.
