Tennis Kicks Off Big Ten Play at Wisconsin

Scarlet Knights begin conference action with the Badgers on Friday
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers tennis kicks off Big Ten play on the road at Wisconsin on Friday, March 16 with a 5 p.m. ET start. The Scarlet Knights then continue the weekend at Minnesota on Sunday, March 17 with a 12 p.m. ET match.
The contest with the Golden Gophers will have live results and a live video stream of the event.
RU'S LAST TIME OUT
Rutgers (5-4, 0-0) tennis returned to the win column with a 4-3 victory over Georgia Southern on Sunday morning in Orlando, Florida. The Scarlet Knights claimed the doubles point and three singles matchups to prevail in the match.
The doubles duo of Mingxiu Du and Kat Muzik and pair of Jaci Cochrane and Maya Jacobs each earned wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spot, respectively. Du and Muzik hold an 8-4 overall record in doubles action this season. Cochrane and Jacobs hold a 5-1 record in dual play.
Senior Chloe Lee, Cochrane and Muzik each added singles victories in the match, as Muzik clinched the win at the No. 3 position. Cochrane leads the Scarlet Knights with a 6-3 singles mark in dual action this year.
SCOUTING WISCONSIN
Wisconsin (6-7, 0-1) opened the season with six consecutive wins before falling in its next seven straight. Then-No. 3 Florida stumped the winning streak followed by losses to then-No. 21 Wake Forest and then-No. 10 Michigan. The Badgers last took the court on March 3 with a loss to Big Ten foe Minnesota by a score of 4-3.
Lexie Keberle paces the squad in singles action with a dual record of 9-2 at the No. 1 spot. Melissa Pick follows with a 7-3 mark between the No. 4 and No. 5 positions.
In doubles play, the pair of Kelsey Grambeau and Keberle own a 4-1 dual mark. Meanwhile, the duo of Michelle Linden and Christina Zordani hold a 4-2 record.
SERIES VS. THE BADGERS
Last season, Rutgers earned a 4-3 victory over Wisconsin at home. Despite the Scarlet Knights giving up the doubles point, RU rallied four singles wins with Muzik clinching the match at the No. 4 spot with a win over UW's Pick.
SCOUTING MINNESOTA
Minnesota (9-6, 1-0) dropped two matches over the weekend, falling to Florida Gulf Coast by a margin of 4-3 and Notre Dame by a score of 6-1. The Gophers opened Big Ten action with a home win over the Badgers.
In singles play, Caroline Ryba owns a team-best 9-4 record at the No. 1 spot. Tina Kreinis and Barbara Mancera follow with identical 8-3 singles records.
Caitlyn Merzbacher and Mehvish Safdar pace the team with a 10-2 dual record in doubles.
The Gophers will host the Maryland Terrapins on Friday before welcoming the Scarlet Knights.
