Tampa, Fla. and Durham, N.C. – Rutgers pole vaulters Brian and
Kevin O'Sullivan set the new standard for the outdoor pole vault at the South Florida Invitational on the USF campus Friday. The pair have gone back and forth over the past two seasons trading school records in both the indoor and outdoor event.
Faith Bethea added a school record performance on the women's side, setting a new mark in the triple jump. She broke the record previously set in 2018, jumping 12.97m (42' 6.75") to win the event. Bethea already owned the indoor triple jump school record.
The O'Sullivan brothers established the school record in the pole vault with the pair clearing the bar at 5.51m (18' 1"). Brian achieved the height in fewer attempts to finish first in the event, while Kevin placed second and
Nico Morales took third, clearing 5.21m (17' 1").
Chloe Timberg posted a win for the pole vault crew on the women's side, as she cleared 4.50m (14' 9").
Andrew Krall placed fourth in the hammer with a throw of 59.30m (194' 6").
Yashahya Brown finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles, running 13.82. Both the men's and women's relay teams saw success on the track with the women's 4x100 and 4x400 squads earning fourth-place finishes in both events, running 45.81 and 3:41.16, respectively. The men's 4x400 finished third in 3:10.19 and took fifth in the 4x100 in 40.51.
RU split the weekend, sending the distance squad to the Duke Invitational in Durham, North Carolina.
Kelseigh O'Neil and
Lorena David went fourth and fifth in the 5,000-meter with O'Neil running 16:26.70, followed by David in 16:26.84.
The Scarlet Knights return home to host the Rutgers Relays on Saturday, April 19 at the Bauer Track and Field Complex. The first event will begin at 9 a.m. with letterwinner and senior day recognitions scheduled for the afternoon.
