PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers track and field hosted the Rutgers Relays on Saturday, April 19 at the Bauer Track and Field Complex. The Scarlet Knights turned in 17 event wins and several PRs on an afternoon that included a letterwinner recognition and Senior Day celebration.
The meet was an opportunity for several young Scarlet Knights and newcomers to earn a chance to compete and they responded with impressive performances.
On the track,
Bryce Tucker won the 400-meter hurdles in 52.93 and
Damani Brown took first in the 800-meter in 1:54.97. 2. Jah'Mere Beasley finished second in the 200-meter in 21.94. The women's squad picked up wins in five events, including at 1-2-3 sweep in the 100-meter.
Azariah Grantham finished first in 11.66, followed by
Naylah Jones in second in 11.88 and
Cynthia Boakye in third in 11.97.
Charlee Crawford won the 200-meter in 23.84, followed by Grantham in 24.01 and
Abby Love in third in 24.52. Crawford also won the 400-meter in a time of 53.82, while
Success Duruzor finished second in 55.17. The distance squad earned wins in the women's 1,500-meter with
Casey Walter in 4:43.01, while
Sofia Condron finished first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:52.53.
Anabella Chin went second in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:02.88, followed by Syndey Nettles in third in 1:04.46 and
Paige Boyce took third in the 1,500-meter running a time of 4:47.12.
The Scarlet Knights enjoyed a successful day in the field events as well with five wins on the men's side and four on the women. In the pole vault,
Nico Morales and
Brian O'Sullivan tied for first, clearing 5.41m (17' 9"), while
Kevin O'Sullivan placed third with a height of 5.36m (17' 7").
Andrew Krall the hammer with a throw of 60.94m (199' 11"), followed by
Dylan Powell in third with a mark of 58.19m (190' 11"). Steven Coponi was victorious in the javelin, earning a throw of 66.44m (218') and
Carlos Bermudez placed second in the discus with a throw of 45.94m (150' 9").
In the jumps,
Daniel Arana won the triple jump with a distance of 15.26m (50' 0.75"), while
Foluso Adedeji cleared 2.01m (6' 7.25") in fewer attempts to win the high jump, while
Malachi Yehudah took third with the same height of 2.01m (6' 7.25").
On the women's side,
Alianna Eucker won the javelin with a throw of 47.04m (154' 4'),
Paige Floriea took first in the long jump with a mark of 6.48m (21' 3") and
Faith Bethea won the triple jump with a leap of 12.93m (42' 5"). RU went 1-2-3 in the pole vault led by
Chloe Timberg in first with a height of 4.46m (14' 7.5"),
Suzy Lacombe in second (4.06m/13' 3.75") and
Emma Keating in third (3.91m/12' 10").
Kelly Enterline finished second in the discus with a throw of 44.40m (145' 8").
The Scarlet Knights will travel to historic Franklin Field of the Penn Relays beginning Thursday, April 24 through Saturday, April 26.
