LINCOLN, Neb. – Rutgers baseball fell to Nebraska by a score of 10-5 on Saturday afternoon at Haymarket Park.
The Scarlet Knights (14-17, 4-7 Big Ten) were unable to overcome a 6-0 deficit in the middle innings, as the Cornhuskers (14-17, 4-7 Big Ten) secured the series win with the victory.
After two strong innings from RU starter Landon Mack, Nebraska pushed across a run in the third on an RBI groundout with runners on the corners to make it 1-0. The Cornhuskers expanded their lead in the fourth, using a pair of two-run homers and an RBI single to jump ahead 6-0.
RU's bats battled back in the top of the fifth, getting on the board with a wild pitch. Ty Doucette then singled up the middle to score a pair and JT Thompson added another on an RBI fielder's choice to bring it to 6-4.
JD Jones laced an RBI double into left to score Pablo Santos and make it a one-run game in the sixth, but Nebraska responded with another RBI groundout in the bottom half to take a two-run lead at 7-5.
A sac fly and RBI double made it 9-5 for the hosts in the bottom of the seventh and another RBI double pushed it to 10-5 in the eighth.
In the loss, Matthew Cruz provided a scoreless inning of relief with a pair of strikeouts.

- The Rutgers defense has not committed an error in 19 consecutive games, raising its Big Ten-best fielding percentage to .988.
- Cohen extended his team-high on-base streak to 14 games.
- Ty Doucette had his 12th multi-hit game of the season.
- Doucette recorded his team-best eighth game with multiple RBIs.
The series finale between Rutgers and Nebraska is set for 1 p.m. Sunday on Big Ten Plus.
