PRINCETON, N.J. – Rutgers track and field resumed its outdoor season with a trip to Princeton for the Sam Howell Invitational and Distance Classic. Originally scheduled for Saturday, April 5, the meet was moved to Friday, April 4 to avoid heavy rains expected in the area.
Several Scarlet Knights made their season debut at the meet with many of them turning in solid performances.
On the women's side,
Sydney Nettles earned a win in the 400-meter hurdles, running 1:02.71.
Anabella Chin placed fourth in the event in 1:03.80. Also on the track was
Lucia Garcia-Beltran in fourth in the 100-meter in 12.29 and a fifth-place finish for
Cynthia Boakye in the 400-meter with a time of 56.48.
Ciara Demarest placed second in the shot put with a throw of 12.96m (42' 6.25"), while
Kelly Enterline took second in the discus with a distance of 39.27m (128' 10"). Demarest also competed in the discus, finishing fourth with a mark of 38.46m (126' 2").
The men's team was led by
Dylan Powell, who placed second in the hammer with a throw of 55.43m (181' 10").
Ian Habjan finished fourth in the javelin, throwing a distance of 51.21m (168').
Maan Patel ran in the unseeded 5,000-meter, placing fourth with a time of 14:52.08.
Rutgers returns to action with a split weekend on April 11-12, sending a group to the South Florida Invitational on the USF campus, while others will compete at the Duke Invitational.
