PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women's soccer opened the 2025 campaign with a convincing 3-0 win over NJIT.
The Scarlet Knights dominated from start to finish, controlling possession 68% of the game out shooting the Highlanders 21-3.Â
Patricia Tsokos opened the scoring for RU in the 13th minutes with a right-footed shot from 20 yards out for her first goal as a Scarlet Knights.Â
Just under 20 minutes later,
Nata Ramirez slotted a perfect through ball to
Ashley Baran, who finished it over the keeper to make it 2-0.Â
RU continued to control the game in the second half, firing off another 12 shots. In the 87th minute, Ramirez served in a corner kick that took multiple deflections – the last of which went off freshman
Sophia Stiles to bring the score to 3-0.Â
The Scarlet Knights held off NJIT for the remainder of the game to start the campaign 1-0.Â
Graduate student
Rachel Quigley played all 90 minutes in net and earned the shutout in her first game in a Rutgers uniform.Â
