BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Rutgers volleyball team came back after dropping its opening set to take the next three frames in a 22-25, 25-16, 25-9, 25-14 victory over Marist in the 2025 season opener on Friday afternoon at Alumni Arena.

- Senior Lexi Visintine and sophomore Aspen Maxwell led the attack with double-digit kills. Visintine captured a game-high 16 kills, hitting at a .412 clip, while Maxwell swung for 14 kills. Freshman Natalie Robinson also contributed eight kills to hit .462 on the day.
- Aiding the attack was sophomore Lily Bolen with 43 assists to go along with 10 digs for the third double-double of her career.
- The Scarlet Knights served up 11 aces with a career-high tying four coming from newcomer and junior transfer Jenna DeLaMater and fellow newcomer and graduate transfer Lauren Wilcock serving up a trio. DeLaMater also had four aces previously at Central Arkansas against Illinois State back on Aug. 26, 2023.
- Defensively, Robinson and Maxwell combined for 12 blocks. Robinson, who set the single-season block record as a freshman last year, came up with eight total stops (3 solo, 5 assisted) with Maxwell making four rejections.
- A pair of sophomores picked up double-figure digs for the defense as Alleigh Dutton recorded a game-high 12 and Bolen scooped up 10.
- SET 1 (22-25) | After the two squads played to a 10-10 tie, the opening frame was knotted eight more times. Lexi Visintine's team-leading fifth kill of the set put RU ahead 21-19 and a pair of Red Fox errors saw the Scarlet Knights up 22-20. It was Marist, however, rattling off the next five points on a trio of kills, an ace and an error for the win. Rutgers out-hit Marist .313 to .214, with Aspen Maxwell adding four kills for the offense.
- SET 2 (25-16) | Rutgers powered back to tie up the match behind a .448 hitting percentage while limiting Marist to .069. Visintine helped the Scarlet Knights to an 11-7 edge, while a Tara Garvey swing pushed RU out to an 18-12 advantage. RU closed outscoring the Red Foxes 7-3 with a Natalie Robinson kill giving her squad set point and its largest lead of the frame. Visintine led RU with six kills to hit .455 and Garvey was successful on four of her five attacks.
- SET 3 (25-9) | The Scarlet Knights took a 2-1 lead after opening on a 14-2 run and hitting .500 for the set. RU served up five of its 11 aces of the match with a trio coming from Lauren Wilcock in her Scarlet Knight debut. Aspen Maxwell led the attack with five kills and a .571 hitting percentage. Robinson, meanwhile, put up three blocks, including two solo stops.
- SET 4 (25-14) | While it was Marist in front 12-9, Rutgers ignited for a 16-2 run to take the match. Included in the run were a trio of aces from Lauren DeLaMater. Four different Scarlet Knights logged a pair of kills.
- Rutgers volleyball will meet Liberty on Saturday, Aug. 30 at 6 p.m.
