Olivia Beattie and Sophie Kuiper to Captain Field Hockey

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers field hockey will have a captain duo for the upcoming season of Olivia Beattie and Sophie Kuiper, the program announced. The pair of upperclassmen assume the leadership roles as the Scarlet Knights undergo preseason preparations ahead of the upcoming season, with the 2026 opener set for August 28.
Beattie enters her senior campaign as an experienced starter along the team's backline. The Greenisland, Northern Ireland native is a three-year starter for the Scarlet Knights. She has played in 54 career games, the last 51 consecutive games for RU entering the 2026 campaign. The team's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award winner last season, she is a two-time selection for the trio of Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, Academic All-Big Ten and NFHCA Academic Squad.
Kuiper is set for her junior season as a Scarlet Knight. The forward from Oss in The Netherlands has played in 35 games over the past two seasons, including 18 starts last season. She scored 11 career goals with six assists and four game-winning goals, including being second on the team with eight goals and 18 points last season. She was an Academic All-Big Ten and NFHCA National Academic Squad selection last year.
Rutgers field hockey was ranked in the top-20 nationally throughout all of last season, where they recorded nine wins overall and four in the Big Ten. RU has won at least nine games in 11 of the 14 seasons under head coach Meredith Civico and won at least four Big Ten games in seven of the past eight years.
