Biography

A New Jersey native, guard Austin Williams joins Rutgers for his final season of collegiate basketball. He has previously played at FIU (2022-23), Hartford (2019-22) and Marist (2017-19). In his career, he has played in 111 games, starting 54, and averaged 9.8 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists. He has scored over 1,000 points for his collegiate career. 

2023-24 (Rutgers):
  • Saw game action in 26 games, starting nine  
  • Averaged 4.0 points and 15.8 minutes per game with 16 assists and 12 steals 
  • Scored seven points in RU debut against Princeton, then joined starting lineup for game two and three of season prior to injury
  • Returned to action with four points in 12 minutes against Saint Peter's
  • Posted nine points, four rebounds and three assists, all in first half, against No. 24 Illinois
  • Notched season-high of 14 points at Iowa
  • Returned to starting lineup in win over Indiana, making impact with 10 points, six rebounds, two steals
  • Scored 11 points with six rebounds in win over Nebraska

2022-23 Season: 
  • Joined Florida International University (FIU) for the 2022-23 season, but sat out due to a knee injury
At Hartford (2019-22):
  • Was at Hartford for three seasons, sitting out the first season due to NCAA transfer rules, then playing in 2020-21 and 2021-22
  • Was a two-time all-league selection at Hartford, averaging 15.1 points per game over the two seasons
  • In his graduate season (2021-22), he notched a team-high 16.1 points per game marked fourth in the America East and shot a career-best 50 percent from the field.
  • He also chipped in with 5.2 rebounds per game and 3.4 assists per game.
  • Williams started every game for the Hawks and scored in double figures a team-best 23 times
  • Was named First Team All-America East 
  • In his senior season for the Hawks (2020-21), Williams paced Hartford with 14.1 PPG, 6.2 RPG, and 1.1 steals per game.
  • He started every game during the 2020-21 season and scored in double figures 19 times. 
  • Named Third Team All-America East
  • America East Honor Roll (3.0 GPA or above)
  • Was awarded the America East Championship Most Outstanding Player during the Hawks first-ever conference championship run behind 21.3 points on 61 percent shooting and 8.3 rebounds during the four-game span.
  • Posted a 19-point effort against eventual National Champion Baylor Bears in the NCAA Tournament.
At Marist (2017-19):
  • Played two seasons at Marist in 2017-19, making 60 appearances for the Red Foxes
  • Averaged 5.2 points over two years
  • Scored a career-high 23 points as a Red Fox against Fairfield
  • He started three games and averaged 16.5 minutes, scoring 312 points across two seasons 
Before College:
  • Starred at Seton Hall Prep in high school as a First Team All-Division honoree for the Pirates.
  • Averaged 16.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 2.4 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game and led the team in scoring 
  • Awarded All-Defensive Player at the Hoop Group Tip-off Showcase in his final season.
